• Can pass a criminal record (DBS) check

You’ll need to:

• Get a criminal record check
• Register online with the DVSA to begin the ADI qualification process

Part 1 – Theory Test
Multiple-choice questions and hazard perception

Part 2 – Driving Ability Test
A practical driving test to assess your own driving skill

Part 3 – Instructional Ability Test
A practical assessment of your teaching skills with a real learner or examiner role-playing

After passing Part 2, you can apply for a PDI (Potential Driving Instructor) Licence. This allows you to give paid lessons while preparing for Part 3—gaining valuable teaching experience.

Pass Part 3 and you’ll be added to the official DVSA Approved Driving Instructor Register. You can then legally start teaching learners.
